Colorado Riverfront Commission
Adventure on the Riverfront Trails

The Colorado Riverfront Trail System celebrates and preserves the cottonwood groves, wetlands, cattail marshes, gravel bars and islands ofthe Colorado (originally the Grand) and the Gunnison Rivers. The junction of these two mighty rivers provides a beautiful and rich habitat for wildlife and riparian vegetation in an otherwise arid region.

This rich and diverse environment is home for over 200 different species of birds, three endangered species of fish and an abundance of small animals.

The trail system provides many recreational opportunities to walkers, bikers, skaters, joggers and fisherman.  When using the trail:

  • • Be courteous.
  • • Yield to other users.
  • • Avoid excessive speeds.
  • • Enjoy!

Other trails can be accessed from the Grand Valley. It is hoped that some day there will be a statewide trail system that will link communities via rivers and historic transportation routes. Additional maps and information on other trails in the area can be obtained by contacting, state, federal, and local agencies.

"Events" will keep you up to date on what's coming up on the Riverfront Trails, be it a trail maintenance day or a major publicized event, you'll want to know what's going on. Our page entitled simply "Trails" gives a more in depth description of each of the Riverfront Trails different loops. Find out which trail may suit you as a personal favorite. If you or your organization is interested in volunteering opportunities, check out our "Adopt-A-Trail" page. If you're curious about our Trail Host program, co-sponsored by the Grand Junction Police Department, see our "Adopt-A-Trail" page where you can find out more about what this program entails.

In the meantime, just sit back, relax, and tour the trails!
